A quantitative theory of filtration of suspensions flocculated with polymeric flocculants is developed. The theory, based upon a simple picture of the adsorption of the flocculant combined with considerations of floc geometry and the Kozeny-Carman permeability equation, explains the variations of filtration rate with flocculant concentration observed experimentally.
