Separation of Pa$sup 234$m (UX$sub 2$) as Laboratory Practice in Radiochemical Training. Report No. 89; SEPARACION DE Pa$sup 234$m (UX$sub 2$) COMO PRACTICA DE LABORATORIO EN LA ENSENANZA DE RADIOQUIMICA. INFORME NO. 89
The coprecipitation of Pa/sup 234m/ (UX/sub 2/) with benzoylphenylhydroxylamine (BPH) was studied beginning with solutions of uranium in hydrochloric acid. The separation factors Pa/Th at different concentration of HCl were determined. The results obtained are very superior to those obtained by the classical method of coprecipitation with zirconium phosphate. This fact, together with the simplicity of the method, makes it very suitable for experiments in radiochemical laboratory work. The method shows the techniques of working with isotopes of short life, the analyses of data from a source whose decay velocity decreases rapidly, and the determination of the resolution time of a counting system.
