ON THE STRUCTURE AND THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF "AMMONIUM DIURANATE"

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4173534

The addition of NH/sub 4/OH to an aqueous solution of UC/sub 2/(NO/sub 3/ )/su b 2/ produced an ammonium precipitate which hse previously been referred to as ammonium diuranate (ADU). From analytical studies and calculations of the reaction, it is concluded that the ADU precipitate is probably a mixture of hydrated pyrouranates. A discussion on the possible mechanism by which the pyrouranate structure is formed is contained. (C.J.G.)
