Bastnasite is a natural fluocarbonate of the cerium group and affords an abundant and high-grade source of the lighter rare-earth elements. By the use of a combination of techniques the processing of a bastnasite concentrate to obtain the individual rare-earth elements, or groups of elements, was accomplished. (W. L. H.)
