The ultimate objective of the fuel program for Canadian power reactors is to evolve a fuel that will contribute less than 1.0 mil/kwh to the cost of power. An outline is given of the basis on which the major fuel parameters such as materials and shape are decided. Design is discussed in detail, and direct reference is made to manufacturing problems.
