RADIATIONLESS TRANSITIONS IN HEAVY $mu$-MESOATOMS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4170522
Spectra of x rays, emitted by mu -mesic atoms of uranium and lead, were investigated by means of a scintillation spectrometer. It was shown that the intensity of 2P-1S radiative transitions in mesouranium, normalized to one stoppod muon, is considerably less than in mesolead. The existence of this mechanism of mesoatom transitions, in which the relevant energy is directly transferred to the nucleus was experimentally proved. (auth)
