Towards picosecond resolution. Contribution of microchannel electron multipliers to vacuum tube design

The development and operation of a microchannel plate and its use in photoelectric transducers, photoelectric converters, and streak camera and wide band CRT for picoseconds time resolution are reviewed. The uses of microchannel photomultipliers in hodoscopes, Cherenkov detectors, and a new imaging detection system are discussed. (WHK)
