Light scattering measurements in the stationary plasma of a cascade arc (in German)

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4167014
By means of light scattering measurements, the problem of whether stationary arc discharges in a helium or deuterium atmosphere are in local thermodynamic equilibrium was clarified. The electron temperatures and densities were determined in the 90$sup 0$ scattering experiment from the form of the measured scattering profiles as well as from the total scattering intensity. The results of the light scattering measurements in the case of the helium discharges were compared with spectroscopic 'end-on' measurements. According to this, the discharges are not in equilibrium. In order to answer the question of whether an enlargement of the arc discharge plays a role in the gaps between the cascade plates, additional spectroscopic 'side-on' measurements were carried out.
