An unstructured finite volume method for the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations on hybrid grids is presented. Such hybrid grids are composed of different element types so as to optimize the distribution of grid points. A method to convert tetrahedral grids into a hybrid mixture of tetrahedra and hexahedra has been developed. The preprocessing of hybrid grids, the numerical scheme and the parallel implementation of the flow solver is described. Results for internal and external flow configurations are presented.
