TOMOGRAPH FOR INDUSTRIAL RADIOGRAPHY

Journal Article · · J. Sci. Instr.

Tomography is a radiograpbic technique originally developed for medical purposes, in which relative movements of x-ray tube, subject, and film are controlled so that a defined section of the subject is recorded as a sharp image, superimposed on a diffuse background due to blurred images of the rest of the subject. A tomograph for industrial use was developed, and its capabilities were assessed by tests on an assembly of wire mesh gauzes. Its practical application was demonstrated with two types of heat exchangers, on which useful detailed observations were made. Tomography is considered to be particularly effective for examination of such assemblies in which repetitive detail is masked by overlying layers. (auth)
