Backscattering of pi mesons by nucleons may provide a method to study experimentally the Regge trajectories of the nucleon and its resonances. Using the Regge pole hypothesis, the asymptotic behavior of the large-angle differential cross section and recoil nucleon polarization in the limit of high energies was calculated. The irterferences among the three known trajectories are obtained, as well as their interferences with Gribov's conjugate trajectories, which may lead to oscillations in the cross section and polarization.
