EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE CASCADE TIME OF NEGATIVE MESONS IN A LIQUID HELIUM BUBBLE CHAMBER

The cascade time of mesons ( pi /sup -/) in liquid helium wss measured. The results seem to rule out significant amounts of Stark effect and polarization capture in liquid helium. It appears that the measured cascade time is consistent with the assumption that radiation and external Auger effect are the primary cascade mechanisms. (C.E.S.)
