Competition policy versus energy policy: A Swedish example

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:416343

In an interview given to the Swedish publication ERA, Professor Stephen Littlechild - who needs no introduction to the newspaper reading public in the United Kingdom - made the following observation. {open_quotes}I do not want to give advice to the readers of ERA, but it must be said that the privatization of the U.K. electricity market has led to many advantages. We have a lower electricity price today than what we would have had if electricity had remained in public hands, and customers have received better service. Competition has also increased, which is positive. I think that Sweden should simply hurry up.{close_quotes}
