The effect of additions of radioactivities (S/sup 35/and Ra) on the adsorption properties of barium sulfate for methylene blue and acid orange was investigated. It was established that with increasing specific activity of S/sup 35/, the adsorption of methylene blue decreases, while that of acid orange increases. This behavior is reversed with the use of radium in the BaSO/sub 4/ precipitate. It is assumed that the beta activity imparts a positive charge to the surface of the BaSO/sub 4/ precipitate, while alpha activity imparts a negative charge. (R.V.J.)
