CESIUM-137 AND IODINE-131 IN FINNISH MILK FROM SEPT. 1962 TO AUG. 1963
Milk from Helsinki, Joensuu, and Rovaniemi, Finland, was analyzed for Cs/ sup 137/ and O/sup 131/ from Sept. 1962 to Aug. 1963. The maximum I/sup 131/ content in milk was observed in Helsinki on Sept. 21, 1962. The Cs/sup 137/ content in milk from northern and eastern Finland was about 2 times higher than in Helsinki and western Finland. In Joensuu and Rovaniem the peak values with fodder grown in the summer of 1962 were obtained at the beginning of March 1963. Milk samples collected in Aug. to Sept. 1959 from 7 experimental farms in southern and middle Finland contained only 16 pci/l Cs/sup 137/ as an average. The average in Helsinki in Sept. average 10 times higher. Data are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
