PRODUCTION OF NUCLEON ISOBARS IN PROTON-PROTON COLLISIONS

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
The energy spectra of inelastically scattered protons from p-p collistons at 1.04 to 2.04 Bev were studied tn order to investigate the validity of the isobar model of pion production. The results. plotted for energies of 1.20, 1.60, and 2.04 Bev. agree well with the curve expected for single meson production. which indicates that single meso production predominates over that of double mesons at small angles. There ts no evidence for resonances at 1.52 and 1.67 Bev which were suggested by previous work on pion photoproduction and pi -N scattering. (D.L.C.)
