DYNAMIC SCREENING CORROSION TESTS OF YANKEE MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION IN HIGH TEMPERATURE BORATED WATER
Technical Report

OSTI ID:4161872
Screening corrosion tests of primary system materials of construciton for the Yankee reactor were carried out ofr one month periods at 600 deg F, 1800 to 1850 psi, and at a flow velocity of 36 to 40 feet persecond in water containing a range of boric acid concentrations without and with lithium hydroxide addition. Lithium hydroxide addition, in trace quantities, was found generally to reduce corrosive attack on the materials tested. No tendency toward stress corrosion cracking of AISI tType 304 stainless steel was observed at stresses up to 75 per cent of the yield point. Certain problems relative to the behavior of the control rod material (silver-indium-cadium alloy) were noted. (auth)
