Determination of zinc in metallic uranium (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Bunseki Kagaku (Japan Analyst)

For determination of zinc in metallic uranium by the dithizone extraction method, the effect of pH on the extraction of zinc-dithizone complex, the concentration of dithizone, and the liberating agent for elution of adsorbed dithizone complex from alumina column were investigated and the following method of determination was established. The sample was dissolved in hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide, it was evaporated to dryness, the residue wvas treated with ammonium citrate tor masking of uranium, aqueous ammonia was added to adjust pH 8.5 plus or minus 0.3, and zinc was extracted as dithizone complex into carbon tetrachloride. The extracted solution was passed through an alumina adsorption column, washed with chloroform for removing of dithizone complexes of nickel and cobalt, the zinc was liberated by use of chloroform-methanol and determined by measuring the light absorbance at 480 m mu . Determination of 0.2 approximates 8 gamma of Zn/Sml was made by the proposed method. (auth)
