Costs and code restrictions related to venting and combustion air supply often create barriers to the use of gas appliances in this segment of the housing market. The development of technology tools and information for the multistory market has the potential to decrease the burden on architects, designers, and builders when specifying gas-fired appliances for multistory buildings. The objective of this work is to provide the gas industry with tools and information to simplify the process of specifying gas appliances and vents for multistory applications. This goal is being addressed through development of a computer model, VENT-M, for designing and analyzing multistory venting systems, and through the generaton of venting guidelines for multistory systems.
