THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF IRRADIATED GRAPHITE BY A RAPID THERMAL-PULSE METHOD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4158859
A convenient and rapid method of measuring thermal conductivity by a thermal-pulse method was adapted to the measurement of irradiated graphite. Samples were irradiated at 650 plus or minus 10 deg C to greater than 10/sup 21/ nvt (E> 0.18 Mev). Post-irradiation measurements by the thermalpulse method yielded values of thermal diffusivity from which the thermal conductivity was calculated. The apparatus is described, and thermal conductivity data are presented for three types of graphite in the temperature range 25 to 550 deg C. An example of the annealing of radiation damage in CSF graphite irradiated at 75 deg C is given. (auth)
