DETERMINATION OF Sr$sup 90$ AND Cs$sup 137$ IN SOIL AND PLANTS (in Italian)

The methods for the extraction and chemical separation of Sr/sup 90/ and Cs/sup 137/ from the soil and plants are described. The values for the Sr/sup 90/ and Cs/sup 137/ contents of a number of soil samples collected near the Ispra Nuclear Research Centre and that of samples of plants collected monthly from May to September 1959 are presented. For a long vegetation period, the values for the Sr/sup 90/ discrimination factor from soil to plants are approximately 0.7. The values for the Cs/sup 137/ concentration found in the examined plants demonstrate a direct absorption of this nuclide from the air as well as its absorption from the soil through the roots.
