Chemistry of destroying chemical warfare agents in flame. Final progress report, May 1995-August 1996

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:415839

Chemical structure of the premixed flat H2/O2/Ar and CH4/O2/Ar flames doped with CWA simulants and proposed destruction mechanisms of trimethyl phosphate and dimethyl methyl phosphonate in H2/O2/Ar flame are reported. During the last year concentration profiles of phosphorus oxides and acids in the stoichiometric H2/O2/Ar flame and final concentrations of these species as a function of initial TMP and DMMP loading have been obtained. The results of thermodynamic equilibrium calculation have been compared with the experimental data. The inhibition effect of TMP addition on the lean CH4/O2/Ar flame was observed. The role of H and OH radicals in DMMP and TMP destruction mechanism has been discussed using the results of studies of the width of TMP and DMMP zone in the lean H2/O2/Ar flame. The preliminary results on DIMP destruction in the stoichiometric H2/O2/Ar flame have been obtained. The detailed kinetic mechanisms of TMP and DMMP destruction in flame giving appropriate agreements with the experimental data are presented.
