EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON THREE SILICONE DIELECTRIC FLUIDS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4157204
Three silicone dielectric fluids----Dow Corning QF 10158, General Electric SF 85(20), and General Electric SF 97(20)---were irradiated while their electrical properties were being measured. There were samples of each fluid at temperatures of 40 deg F, 200 deg F, and 400 deg F. A mixed neutron-gamma radiation field was provided by the Ground Test Reactor. The samples were subjected to a maximum gamma dose of 2.5 x 10/sup 10/ ergs/gm(C) and a maximum integrated neutron flux of 1.7 x 10/sup 15/ n/cm/sup 2/ (E> 2.9 Mev). Extensive preirradiation measurements were made of the dielectric constant, dissipation factor, resistivity, and dielectric strength of each fluid. These measurements were used as a standard to which the irradiation and the postirradiation measurements were compared. (auth)
