DISSIPATION FUNCTIONS AND INVARIANT IMBEDDING. PART I

Journal Article · · Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.
A new method for establishing the existence of solutions to nonlinear functional equations for the description of radiative transfer, neutron transport, diffusion and heat conduction. scattering and random walk, and wave propagation is presented. This method is based on the intrcduction of a new class of physically important functions, the dissipation functions. It is essential for the rigorous formulation of the invariant imbedding approach to present these existence theorems. The results give a new approach, independent of characteristic values and spectral theory, to the classical linear transport processes. (M.C.G.)
