THE pn$Yields$pn$pi$$sup 0$ REACTION IN THE ENERGY RANGE FROM THE THRESHOLD UP TO 665 Mev (in Russian)

By a simultaneous investigation of pi /sup 0/-meson production in pd- and pp-collisions, information was obtained on the magnitudes of the total cross sections and angular distributions for the reaction pn yields pn pi /sup 0/ in the energy region from the threshold up to 665 Mev. Comparison of these cross sections with those of other reactions shows that the condition imposed on the relation between the total cross sections of meson production by the isotopic invariance hypothesis is fulfilled (to within 10%) in the energy region investigated. Production of pi -mesons in an isotopic spin state T = 1 was about twice as intense as that in states with T = 0. The angular distribution of pi /sup 0/-mesons produced in nucleon---nucleon collisions at an energy of about 650 Mev was found to be approximately isotropic, in contrast to that of the charged pions which is essentially anisotropic. This difference contradicts the hypothesis of the isotopic invariance. (auth)
