A nondestructive technique employing a large sodium iodide gamma-ray spectrometer was used to examine the gamma radioactivity of iron meteorites. Of 5 studied, only Aroos and Sikhote-Alin showed detectable gamma radioactivity. In Aroos, measured 120 days after fall, 425 plus or minus 40 d/m/kg of 308-day Mn/ sup 54/was the predominant radioactivity detected; 5.27 year Co/sup 60/ concentrations in 4 pieces of Sikhote-Alin randged from 207 plus or minus 21 to 386 plus or minus 39 d/m/kg. No gamma-ray activity in the energy randge 0.2 to 2 Mev was detectable in the other 4 siderites with a limit of detection of about 10 gammas/m/kg. (auth)
