The heat content and heat capacity of solid phase beryllium oxide (99.9% BeO) were determined in the range 1200 to 2880 deg K. The data on enthalpy at high temperatures show the melting point to be 2820 plus or minus 9 deg K, while the published data quoted 2843 plus or minus 30 and 2793 plus or minus 30 deg K. (R.V.J.) MoF/sub 3/ was prepared by the reduction of MoF/sub 5/ with molybdenum metal powder. X-ray and neutron diffraction showed the crystal structure of this compound to be of the rhombohedral VF/sub 3/-type, rather than the cubic ReO/sub 3/-type structure previously reported. (auth)
