GAMMA-SPECTROMETRIC DETERMINATIONS OF THORIUM, URANIUM AND POTASSIUM IN TEKTITES

Thorium, uranium, and potassium were determined in nine tektites and two Peruvian glasses by a non-destructive gamma-spectrometric technique. The nine tektites include three indochinites from Thailand, one indochinite from China, two bediasites, one philippinite, one moldavite, and one australite. The average thorium, uranium, and potassium contents of these samples are 11.9 ppm, 2.0 ppm, and 1.9%, respectively. Attention is drawn to the rather high (average, 6.0) Th/ U ratio observed for the tektites. Previous thorium and uranium data on tektites are tabulated and compared with the results. (auth)
