Contribution to the Study of the Double Compton Effect (thesis); CONTRIBUTION A L'ETUDE DE L'EFFET COMPTON DOUBLE (THESES)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4152196
The cross section for the double Compton effect is established by quantum-electrodynamic calculations. A method is found for describing easily variations in the cross section as a function of the photon angular distributions and the incident energy. Polarization and infrared-divergence effects are noted. Suggestions are given for several types of experiments that might possibly display the double Compton effect, using two or three detectors. Experimental results are shown for scattering in Al, Cu, and Pt. These results are compared with the theoretical predictions. (T.F.H.)
