AN ANTI-COINCIDENCE $beta$-RAY SCINTILLATION SPECTROMETER

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
A new type of BETA -ray scintillation spectrometer having a Gaussian response function for monoenergetic electrons was constructed. By employing an anti-coincidence annulus about a plastic scintillator, partial-energy-loss events are rejected. Distortion effects are considered for cylindrical flat-faced scintillators as well as for the spectrometer developed. ln general the spectrometer yields BETA spectra whose Fermi plots are linear for over 90% of the spectral range. Typical spectra covering a wide range of end-point energies and some BETA -- gamma coincidence measurements are presented. (auth)
