FLUID MOTIONS IN A SPHERE. IV. THERMAL INSTABILITY OF A ROTATING FLUID SPHERE HEATED WITHIN UNDER A UNIFORM MAGNETIC FIELD

· Journal of Geomagnetism and Geoelectricity (Japan)
The conditions for which a fluid sphere heated within and subject to the simultaneous action of a uniform magnetic field and rotation can become unstable via a marginal state of purely oscillatory motion are studied. Contrary to previous results, over-stability occurs both under astrophysical and terrestrial conditions. (auth)
