DYNAPAK EXTRUSION OF MARK V-B OUTER FUEL ELEMENT CORES REPORT NO. 2

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4151537

The process to DYNAPAK extrude Mark V-B outer fuel element cores was studied further. Activity has involved efforts to extrude a double length core, secure acceptable die and mandrel materials, study various core characteristics, and check out new concepts pertinent to refining the process. Results indicated that substantial development is required in the area of extruding double length cores. Structures, dimensions, and surface quality show evidence of being able to conform to requirements specified for this core, but also require further attention. The process appears on its way to being finalized as either an alpha phase extrusion or alpha-phase extruded-beta-phase transformed route. (auth)
