FORM AND ANGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF PROTON GROUPS AT Q = 0 Mev IN THE PROTON SPECTRUM OF (d,p) REACTIONS ON HEAVY NUCLEI (in German)

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The proton spectra of the (d,p) reactions on heavy nuclei show a pronounced proton group between Q = 0.3 and -- 1 Mev in addition to the low energy continuum and the gross structure at higher energies. The relative intensity of this proton group increases with decreasing energy of the primary deuterons. From the energy dependence, the A dependence and the angular distribution, it is concluded that this group originates from the d,/sub 5/2/, s/ sub 1/2/, and d,/sub 3/2/ sin gle particle levels. The results show that the single particle nature of these levels is only slowly disturbed with increasing distance from the closed 126-neutron shell. The distance between these levels increases with the mass number of the nucleus. The shapes of the angular distributions are in agreement with the theory of Coulomb distorted (d,p) reactions. Some of the angular distributions show a structure of the kind discussed by de-Shalit et al. for stripping with associated Coulomb excitation. (auth)
