Gamma Emission from Cesium-140; ISSLEDOVANIE GAMMA IZLUCHENIYA TSEZIYA-140

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4150424
Beta decay of Cs/sup 140/ to Ba/sup 140/ was analyzed, and it shows that the first energy level for Ba is at 0.59 Mev. An analysis of spins and evenness of excited even-even nuclei indicates that the first excitation levels have 2 spins and positive evenness (2 plus or minus spin). Cameron grid extrapolation for odd-odd nuclear decay at mass 128 to 208 indicated a total decay energy for Cs/sup 140/ of not less than 5 Mev. An analogy with Cs/sup 138/ predicts BETA -decay at the 0.59-Mev level. Consequently anticipated BETA emission from the upper level should be not less than 4.4 Mev. Gamma spectra of Cs/sup 140/ measured at 0.59 and between 2.5 and 3.5 Mev are given. (R.V.J.)
