VARIATIONAL SHELL-MODEL METHODS FOR DEFORMED ORBITALS

A single-particle representation of deformed orbitals in the s-d shell is obtained by using variational self-consistent methods. The two-body Rosenfeld potential is taken ss the effective interaction. The dependence of the single- particle Hamiltonian on the force parameters, as well as its dependence on the number of nucleons, is investigated. The results are compared with the deformed harmonicoscillator model, discussed by Mottelson and Nilsson. (auth)
