Photoelectric observations of compact galaxies near M31

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. AJ (Engl. Transl.), v. 19, no. 2, pp. 174-176

Several compact galaxies in the Andromeda Nebula (M31) have been observed photoelectrically with the 2.6 m Shain reflector of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. A systematic difference is found between the photoelectric and photographic V magnitudes of the galaxies, leading to an overestimate of the photographic B--V color index. The photoelectric measurements indicate that some of the compact galaxies are red objects with B- Vapprox. =1/sup m/.2-1/sup m/.3. The observed B-V and U-B colors may be attributable to a distinctive star population in these galaxies. (AIP)
