Title: Measurements of Cæsium-137 in Human Beings During 1958-59

Measurements of Cs137 content were made in all persons referred for measurement of their body radioactivity, beginning in Jan. 1958. The largest group of these people comprised women who had worked in the radium-luminizing industry. Measurements were made on 203 of the luminizers, 182 females and 21 males. Measurements were made for Cs137, K40, and radium by detecting their gamma energies and comparing the spectrum for each subject with that from calibration sources. Finally, from these measurements, it was determined that the mean annual dose received by those measured, from Cs137 in the body, was less than 2% of that from natural sources, which is approximately lOO mrem/ year.
