A STUDY OF THE SHIELD OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR

The fast neutron and gamma-ray dose rates and the thermal neutron fluxes existing at the face of the biological shield of the pool-type reactor were carefully measured. Similar data were also obtained at the surface of the pool. Dose rates and fluxes were generally low, although some streaming around thermal column and access facility closures was observed. Other data obtained included measurements of dose rates at various points in the vicinity of tue reactor coolant water heat exchanger, a controlled area during reactor operation. (auth)
