The reduction and disproportionation of uranium in sulfuric acid solutions were analyzed by polarographic methods. With considerable variation in diffusion currents, corresponding to the U(VI) - U(V) and U(V) U(IV) reduction, their sum is a constant in 0.02 to 1.0 N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/. The viscosity decreases as the U(VI) - U(V) first wave i/sub d/in transition from 2 to 4 N H/ sub 2/SO/sub 4/. However the reduction in the i/sub d/ of the third wave cannot be referred to the same factor. It is shown that E/sub 1/2/ of the second wave corresponding to U(V) - U(VI) is a linear function of mean sulfuric acid activity. (R.V.J.)
