Recent data on the partial molal volume of iodine and the entropy of expansion of solvents are used to calculate the partial molal entropy of solution of solid iodine at constant pressure ( DELTA S/sub p/) and at constant volume ( DELTA S/sub v/). Both DELTA S/sub p/ and DELTA S/sub v/ are plotted vs. -R In x/sub 2/ (x/sub 2/ solubility) for a series of non-interacting and nonpolar solvents at 25 deg C. The slope of the DELTA S/sub v/line is 1.10. not too greatly different from the value of 1.00 expected from theoretical considerations for regular solutions. The intercept of the line extropolated to the -R ln x/sub 2/ axis is 9.0 entropy units for the entropy of fusion of iodine at 25 deg C, not far from the 8.0 value extrapolated from the melting point of iodine and known heat capacities.
