LOW-ENERGY NEUTRAL PION PHOTOPRODUCTION IN H$sub 2$ AND He

The results of an experiment on the photoproduction of neutral pions from hydrogen and helium in the very lowenergy region are compared with the dispersion relation calculations of Chew, Goldberger, Low, and Nambu. For hydrogen, agreement was found for incident gamma ray energies above 155 Mev for N/sup +/- approx equal 0.065 and disagreement below for all constant values of N/sup +/. The helium results give support to their effective-range formulas for the small pwave phase shifts. (auth)
