STOPPING OF $pi$-MINUS AND K-MINUS MESONS ON HYDROGEN IN NUCLEAR EMULSION

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

That the experimentally observed fact that the number of K/sup -/ mesons stopping on hydrogen in nuclear emulsion is signlficantly larger than the number of pi /sup -/ is shown to be consistent with other known properties of these mesons. The reason is chiefly that the zero energy pi /sup -/-p cross section is anomalously low. (auth)
