Auditable program of compliance with ALAP

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4144082
Increasing public and governmental pressure is being felt by all sectors of the Nuclear Industry to demonstrate compliance to maintaining occupational radiation exposures as low as practicable (ALAP). This paper describes a systematic approach to occupational radiation exposure reduction which will not only reduce radiation exposure usage but will provide an auditable record of compliance with ALAP. The essential features of the program include guidelines for identification and appreciation of tasks which involve significant amounts of radiation exposure, the contribution of the Health Physicist in reducing radiation exposure, and a matrix for evaluation of feasibility, practicality, and economics of each application.
