S>The Born approximation for stripping is used in an analysis of the cross sections of (d,p) reactions as a function of energy. The magnitude gamma / sup 2/, participating in the formula as a multiplier, is also studied as a function of energy. High energy deuterons (E/sub d/)4 Mev) were used to avoid corrections in the Butler formula for determining gamma /sup 2/ as a function of E/sub d/. The results of experiments with C/sup 12/(d,p)C/sup 13/, Be/sup 9/ (d,p)Be/sup 10/, O/sup 16/(d,p)O/sup 17/, and N/sup 14/(d,p)N/sup 15/ are tabulated. The relati ve and absolute magnitudes of the gamma /sup 2/ widths vary with the increase of E/sub d/. It is shown that for quantitative spectroscopic analysis the Butler gamma /sup 2/ widths are not reliable and that further studies are necessary to determine the absolute differential cross sections as functions of energy. Improved experimental data should produce the necessary information on the mechanism of (d,p) reactions for supplementing the information on forbidden and heavy particle stripping. (R.V.J.)
