LITERATURE SEARCH ON THE RELATIVE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTIVENESS (RBE) OF IONIZING RADIATIONS
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4143647
Results of a literature search to aid in establishing appropriate values for relative biological effectiveness (RBE) are presented. RBE may be defined as the ratio of the dose of 200- to 250-kv x rays required to produce a specific biological effect to the dose of another radiation required to produce the same level of effect. Although some references may have been missed, the compilation is believed to be relatively complete up to mid-year 1959. No attempt was made to classify the references in specific categories as to radiation type or biological effect; they are listed merely in alphabetical order according to author. In most cases, the abstracts given are those of the author or the abstracting medium from which the reference was taken. Approximately 500 references are given. (auth)
