ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES IN HALF-SPACE FILLED WITH A PLASMA

The propagation of electromagnetic waves across a magnetic field in half- space filled with a magnetoactive plasma was studied. It was assumed that the plasma was confined by a stationary magnetic field H. The structure of this field was investigated for the case when the ratio of the plasma pressure to the magnetic pressure was small. It was demonstrated that at large distances from the plasma boundary, an electromagnetic wave with an electric vector parallel to the magnetic field H has the form of a plane wave with a propagation constant that is specified by the equation for an infinite plasma. The reflection and transmission coefficients were evaluated for a plane wave striking the plasma from vacuum. (auth)
