$beta$$-$$gamma$ POLARIZATION CORRELATION IN Co$sup 60$ $beta$ DECAY

Correlations of transversely polarized electrons and ciroularly polarized gamma quanta in Co/sup 60/ beta decay are discussed. Electrolytically prepared Co/sup 60/ (100 mu c) was used for determining the correlation magnitude as a function of coincidence rate variation. Measurements with a 0.4 mg/ cm/sup 2/ thick bismuth electron scatterer show DELTA = (0.50 plus or minus 0.18)%. The efficiency of the gamma polarimeter was determined by measuring beta -- gamma correlation ( gamma circularly polarized) in Co/sup 60/ and Sc/sup 46/ decay. The beta polarimeter was calculated geometrically considering multiple scattering in bismuth foil. The results show A = 0.32 plus or minus 0.12, in good agreement with theoretical and experimental data. (R.V.J.)
