A DISCUSSION OF TWO IMCOMPRESSIBLE MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC FLOWS. PART III

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4141087
The approximate solutions to problems involving the flow of an incompressible viscous fluid having low electrical conductivity through a transverse magnetic field are presented. It is shown that the effects of the Hall current and ion slip can be incorporated into the continuum solution, to a first order, and that the effects of induced properties are of the order of magnetic Reynolds number. Another problem involves the Falkner-Skan flow: it is shown that the external magnetic field must be of the order of the square root of the velocity divided by the length for similar solutions to exist. Further analysis shows that, unless the conductivity vanishes outside the boundary layer, the class of magnetic fields required for similar solutions leads to singularities in the external field.
