Strong coupling of parametric instabilities of a cold magnetized plasma with an intense electromagnetic wave in Raman scattering

The aperiodic instability in a cold, magnetized plasma due to strong coupling of electrostatic waves at the upper and lower hybrid frequencies with an intense pump wave is analyzed with the linear theory for parametric resonances. A new spectrum of electrostatic perturbations is found; these perturbations propagate across the magnetic field and are driven by both the electromagnetic pump wave and the fixed external field. The analytic results are illustrated by a numerical calculation.
