DIRECT MEASUREMENT OF REACTIVITY IN A SUBCRITICAL REACTOR USING A REPEATED PULSED NEUTRON SOURCE

Journal Article · · Nucl. Energy
OSTI ID:4138085
The kinetics of a reactor with a pulsed neutron source are considered, first for a single pulse and then for a steady repetition of pulses. It is shown that the ratio of the integrated density associated with the prompt behavior to that associated with the delayed behavior is the shutdown reactivity in dollars. An experiment to determine the reactivity of a sub-critical system directly, without the usual associated experiment or calculation is presented. The counts associated with the prompt pulse and the delayed neutron steady background in the cycle of a repetitively pulsed reactor are measured. (auth)
